This term, Year 2 has been learning all about “How does our culture influence our lives?”In reading, we've been exploring different cultures through our main book, The Magic Paintbrush, which gave us a glimpse into some fascinating cultural backgrounds. The children also enjoyed Around the World in Eighty Days, and they even got to respond to a postcard from Phileas Fogg by going on their own drama adventure, sharing their personal cultural interests along the way.

In geography, we've been celebrating diversity by learning about the seven continents and the different physical and human features of each. The kids then put all this great knowledge together into a fun continent fact file to show what they’ve learned. The children loved talking about places they’d like to travel to, what sights they’d see, and, of course, all the delicious food they’d try! We also spent time learning about British Values, focusing on respect and tolerance for different faiths and beliefs, which tied in perfectly with our school value of 'diversity'.

In art, we've been working on our Woven Wonders project, where the children have been learning to share their opinions about art, trying out creative techniques like wool wrapping and weaving, and studying artists like Cecilia Vicuña.

We’ve also had fun exploring museum artifacts, like dolls from different parts of the world and various fabrics, which helped us make our very own worry dolls.

To wrap it all up, for our High Stakes Project, we shared our learning with Year 1. We read Silly Billy to them in different languages, introduced them to our beautiful worry dolls, and showed off our weaving skills, hopefully inspiring the Year 1 children to try something new too.
