This term Year 1 children have been working around the learning question 'How has London changed over time?'

For our High Stakes Project the children created a news report around the great fire of London. They detailed events in chronological order, they discussed the changes that came from the great fire and added a song describing the events of the fire. Please watch it on our Teams account.

As part of our Museum Learning this term, the children looked at an original Paddington bear and an old fire bucket, then we discussed how objects similar to these would have been used to help stop the great fire of London. We also looked at fire services today to see how they have changed.

In Design and Technology the children looked at windmills and the three main components; axle, turbines and structure. The children designed a windmill for a mouse and had to follow the success criteria that the mouse sent. Once they had designed the structure they built it and added the turbines and the axle. To finish the topic the children evaluated their turbine to check that it works and that they had followed the success criteria.

The year 1 children had a fantastic time at The Paddington Bear Experience in London. We had an amazing virtual train ride from Paddington Station to Windsor Gardens. From there we went into Paddington's house which he had destroyed with paint and water. We then traveled to the Peruvian jungle in search of oranges to create marmalade sandwiches, before finally having lunch the Paddington Bear himself.
