This term, Year 5 have been exploring and discovering how similar the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons were. Their learning journey started from The British Museum where they delved into England's past, uncovering the mysteries of Sutton Hoo. From burials to beliefs, they discovered fascinating insights into Anglo-Saxon society and culture. They discovered some similarities but also the significant differences such as languages, cultures and social structures. The learning history hands-on continued with a workshop led by Anthony Brown. Children experienced an up-close session in our very own round house, sensing an authentic armour, chain-mail, whittling knives, swords and axes from that era. Their findings were then shared with the whole school as well as to parents through role play and dance.

Year 6

This half-term, year 6 have been reading Frankenstein. The children have enjoyed finding out about the macabre experiments of Dr Frankenstein and have taken part in interesting debates on morality. In English we have based our writing on the short film, The Maker. Children showed their empathy skills to write a descriptive story based on this enigmatic creature. They have then in their Dt lessons designed and made their own makers, showing a variety of sewing skills in their final products.

Children Mental Health Week

Children’s Mental Health Week will take place from 5-11 February 2024. The theme this year is ‘My Voice Matters’.

My Voice Matters is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.

When we feel empowered, there’s a positive impact on our wellbeing. Children who feel that their voices are heard and can make a difference have a greater sense of community and self- esteem. This year, we want children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to be empowered to work together to create a positive change for their mental health and wellbeing.

During Children’s Mental Health Week, we want all children and young people to be able to say – and believe - “My Voice Matters.”

During Children’s Mental Health Week children had sessions from Sport in Mind, wellbeing workshops run by Donna from Place 2 Be, Yoga lessons, Art, Relax Kids.
