Year 1 and 2 Learning Highlights
BackThis term, Year 1's big question was 'Why must we take responsibility for our waters?' The children learnt about the importance of recycling and how plastic and rubbish is harming water habitats. The children read 'The Storm Whale' and 'Lost and Found' to introduce animals and what they need to survive. To finish the topic the children took a trip to The River and Rowing Museum in Henley. They learnt about different animal categories and what each group needs to survive. They took a walk along the river bank and observed the different wildlife they could see. Next term the children will be learning about plants and what they need to survive.
Year 2 have had a fantastic term learning all about dinosaurs!
Our big question this term was 'How can we prove that dinosaurs existed?' We had an amazing trip to The Natural History Museum, where we got involved in a dinosaur workshop. The children were able to handle fossils and discuss where they may of come from, learn all about their resident dinosaur 'Sophie' and played a fun game of building a dinosaur. We even got to see the actual dinosaur that Mary Anning first discovered, which linked well with our History lessons where we have been researching Mary Anning's life and discoveries.
The children were also lucky enough to take part in a Dino Workshop at school, Dino Day. They were able to become real life paleontologists, excavating dinosaur bones, inspecting and measuring fossils and learning that you can find out a lot about a dinosaur from its poo! We ended this term with our high stakes
project, where we were able to present all the wonderful art and writing we had done. As well as being able to share all our new found knowledge with the rest of the school.
