Beyond the Classroom
BackThis term we launched our school values. The values were chosen by staff and children to reflect our school community and what we are hoping to achieve together.
Term 1 Value: Kindness
Kindness workshop
On Monday 10th October, we marked World Mental Health Day with in-class discussions. We believe mental health is just as important as good physical health and we want to work alongside you to support the wellbeing of all members in community.
“If you can change your mind, you can change your life.” – William James
The NHS recommends the following five evidence-based steps to wellbeing
We would like to challenge you all to practise some of these with your children and discuss how it makes you all feel. Have fun!
On Monday 16th October, Greig from www.52-lives.org came to school to deliver the workshop 'School Kindness' project.
He talked to our children about the Science of kindness and showed them studies of people being kind. Greig also explained how the 52 lives charity spreads kindness far and wide and much more.
At the end of the workshop, children went to their classes and wrote some cards to show appreciation.
NSPCC
NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme
We have participated in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme this term. Speak out. Stay safe. is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.
This child friendly programme is aligned with the curriculum and consists of age appropriate virtual assemblies and supporting classroom based activities which we have reviewed, alongside NSPCC volunteer led face to face workshops for children aged 6-7 and 9-11.The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy. If you would like to know more about the Speak out. Stay safe.programme visit www.nspcc.org.uk/speakout.
School council
This term we also hold the School Council elections. Our children prepared a speech and campaign to get the most votes.
They are meeting with Miss Noctor and Mrs Abercrombie every 2 weeks to discuss aims, responsabilities and future projects.
This is one of the several leadership roles that children have the option to apply for in our school.
The children have enjoyed their Art Club sessions this term and have had lots of fun exploring how to be an artist! We have looked at the artwork of Andy Warhol to inspire our own self portrait creations. The children enjoyed experimenting with different colours of paint to produce some beautiful backgrounds. We look forward to exploring different line artwork next term.
School Fundraising
Thank you so much for all the families who donated clothing through the Rags to Riches Scheme.
We collected around 160 bags of clothing weighing 560kg which raised £280.25 for the school. We have used this money towards purchasing some buddy benches for the playgrounds which we will introducing during World Kindness Day and Anti Bullying week in November.
We will be launching our PTA at the first AGM meeting on Wednesday 1st November at 5pm. We would like as many people as possible to attend this meeting to vote in the committee and to start to plan a fundraising and event calendar for the coming months.
