Year 5 and 6 Learning Highlights
BackYear 5
In year 5 we were inspired by the world of fashion and how trends in clothing create everything from feelings of awe and wonder to upset and concern. In an attempt to answer our question ‘Do clothes define who we are?' we had numerous discussions with different opinions explored at length. We read ‘The boy in the dress' and discovered that fashion and popular opinion can come at a cost. We explored what fashion means to us and the impact that fast fashion has had on the planet. From the joy of wearing a new fashion accessory to exploring the need for sustainable fashion, Year 5 would like to present to you the balance they found in upcycled clothing!
As part of year 5's sustainability topic children met with Tirza Meinema, a volunteer from the Slough Anti-litter society. The children learnt about re-using, recycling and reducing waste that maybe created by fast and ultra-fast fashion.
The volunteers at Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara in Slough visited Year 5. To support their enquiry question in RE, 'How far does a Sikh go for their belief?' The students learned about sikhi beliefs, 5 kakar, Simran (the remembrance of God), seva and commitment towards their religion.
Year 6
Year 6 has been learning about WW2 and the impact and importance it had in our local area-Langley. Many children were fascinated with how Langley played such a big role in WW2. We have remarkable places such as St Mary's Church, Langley Hall, our local post office and our very own Langley Heritage Primary-which used to be Langley Airfield. Our year 6' set up a brilliant exhibition showcasing all their learning regarding WW2. For example, our exhibition showed: Artwork depicting the Blitz, Biographical cartoons showing the importance of real-life diverse heroes, secret code ciphers used in WW2, maps pinpointing important locations in Langley during WW2, diary entries as an Evacuee and much more.
