Year 3: How did Earth change over time?
BackExploring Earth’s Geological Changes: A Term of Discovery
This term, our exploration of “How Earth has changed over the years?” has led us on an exciting journey through geological processes. We have delved into the study of rocks and soils to understand the planet's structure and composition. Our investigation allowed us to discover how Earth’s surface has evolved over time.
One of the highlights was becoming paleontologists for a day. We created our own cliffs and placed fossils inside for others to uncover, simulating the discovery process. As we explored the cliffs, we observed how the layers of rocks helped us piece together when different creatures roamed the Earth.
Our learning journey began with a fascinating visit from Ms. Hudson from Museum Learning, where we explored the properties of flint and its historical significance. This connected with our previous study of Pre-History, and the children did an amazing job of bringing priorknowledge into the new topic. In our science lessons, we used artefacts from the Museum Learning collection to categorize and group different rocks, examining their formation, appearance, and locations.
A major highlight of the term was our high-stakes project, where we created a Sway presentation to showcase everything we had learned. The presentation included pictures of our work and activities, allowing us to share our newfound knowledge in a creative and informative way.
In addition to our academic achievements, we also participated in a variety of festive activities. After lots of singing and dancing practice, we performed in the Christmas Carol concert. We also had fun raising money for Thames Hospice by taking part in the Reindeer Run. Wearing reindeer antlers, we completed a festive Christmas trail, all while supporting a good cause.
Looking ahead, we’re excited for next term as we begin our study of the Egyptian Civilization. We can’t wait to dive into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt and continue our learning journey!
